The Andaman & Nicobar Police proudly announced the latest expansion of its esteemed Canine Unit with the induction of four Belgian Malinois pups, marking a significant enhancement in the force’s capabilities in Explosive and Narcotic Trade detection.
Carefully selected for their exceptional intelligence, agility, and versatility, the four pups have been allocated two each for Explosive and Narcotic Trade roles. These promising canines are currently under the dedicated care and training at the National Training Centre for Dogs (NTCD), ITBP, Panchkula, Haryana, where they have been undergoing rigorous training with their handlers since January 11, 2024.
The Belgian Malinois breed, renowned globally for its loyalty, courage, and adaptability, has become a preferred choice for police, military, and para-military forces. Exhibiting prowess in roles such as Search and Rescue, Anti Sabotage Checks, Narcotics detection, and tracking and apprehension of suspects, the Belgian Malinois is considered among the best working dog breeds.
These four additions to the Canine Unit are anticipated to significantly enhance the Andaman & Nicobar Police’s capabilities in critical operations, including the checking of contrabands and performing Anti Sabotage Checks during VIP/VVIP visits, at aerodromes, sea ports, vital installations, and more.
The meticulous selection process focused on identifying pups with the right temperament and drive for police work, ensuring a seamless integration with the A&N Police personnel currently undergoing intensive training at the NTCD, ITBP, Panchkula, Haryana.
Established in 2002, the Andaman & Nicobar Police Dog Squad Unit has grown to include 11 dogs specializing in Explosive Sniffing, Narcotics Detection, Tracking, and Search and Rescue. These highly trained K9s, originating from the National Training Centre for Dogs, BSF, Tekanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and ITBP, Panchkula, Haryana, are deployed across various operational duties, including airports, sea ports, VIP duties, national functions, crime scenes, and assisting the ANTF teams in contraband checks.
The Andaman & Nicobar Police expresses eagerness to witness the development of these four Belgian Malinois pups as they undergo rigorous training to become integral members of the Canine Unit.
