In a historic debut, the Andaman & Nicobar Police Ladies Pipe Band is set to make its mark on the national stage at the 25th All India Police Band Competition. The event, taking place in Shokuvi, Dimapur, Nagaland, from November 16 to 22, 2024, will bring together police bands from across the country, showcasing remarkable talent and dedication in a spirited competition.
Formed in 2014, the Ladies Pipe Band of the Andaman & Nicobar Police initially started with 27 volunteer female personnel. Since then, the group has honed its craft, with guidance from the Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC) over the years. As the band readied itself for its national debut, members completed an intensive six-month training with the First Gorkha Rifles. This rigorous preparation saw 24 women refine their skills, achieving proficiency in a full-band march and mastering 14 intricate tunes on various instruments, including pipes, tenor drums, and bass drums.
Before their journey to Nagaland, the Ladies Pipe Band demonstrated their readiness at a special event held at Parade Ground, Army Camp. Their performance was attended by DGP (ANI), CoS (ANC), and other senior officers, who observed the band’s polished presentation and musical prowess.
The participation of the Ladies Pipe Band at the All India Police Band Competition is more than just a performance; it embodies the spirit and cultural heritage of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The community is filled with pride and anticipation as the band prepares to represent the islands on this esteemed national platform, with hopes that this talented group will make a lasting impression and bring accolades back to the region.
