A delegation of the Andaman & Nicobar Rajya Karmachari Mahasangh, affiliated with the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), met the Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Mr. Amit Shah, at Lok Niwas on Sunday and submitted a detailed memorandum highlighting long-pending issues of regular employees of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration.
During the meeting, the delegation raised several key demands, including the declaration of the entire Union Territory as a Hard Area for the purpose of granting Hard Area Allowance and Special Compensatory Allowance to all employees. Other major issues brought to the notice of the Union Home Minister included enhancement of the upper age limit to 40 years for Group ‘B’ posts on the lines of the Union Territory of Ladakh, creation of Official Language posts, and granting blanket approval for all deemed abolished posts.
The delegation also sought the creation of a Directorate of Information Technology along with restructuring of posts to ensure promotional avenues for IT cadre employees, upgradation of pay scales of AC cadre employees, and timely promotion of all eligible officers to the post of Head of Department, particularly in technical departments.
In addition, a separate and detailed proposal regarding the absorption of DRMs was presented. Mr. Amit Shah reportedly gave a patient hearing to the delegation, sought clarifications on various points raised, and assured that a suitable pathway would be worked out for the welfare and betterment of the working class.
Apart from service-related matters, the delegation also discussed several social issues concerning the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The Union Home Minister assured that steps would be taken to address these concerns with the objective of bringing greater welfare and happiness to the islanders.
The delegation was also informed that regular quarterly visits would be undertaken, and that issues could be resolved through dialogue and correspondence rather than resorting to litigation.
The delegation was led by Mr. Jaydeep Kumar Dey, President, Mr. S. Biju Pillai, General Secretary, and Mr. A. Vijay Nair, Finance Secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar Rajya Karmachari Mahasangh. (Story Based on PR from ANRKM)
