Andaman Police in Collaboration with NACP Imparts Coastal Security Training to 311 Recruits

In a pioneering effort to enhance coastal defence capabilities, the Andaman & Nicobar Police, in collaboration with the National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP) in Okha, Gujarat, has initiated an intensive two-week coastal security training course. This program is designed to fortify the region’s coastal security and involves 311 newly recruited police personnel.

The training, led by Mr. Ram Kishan, Assistant Commandant of NACP, is being conducted at the Police Training School (PTS) in Prothrapur. The comprehensive curriculum includes international maritime laws, engine systems, boat operations and basic defect rectification, borders and ports of India, the Maritime Zones of India Act 1976, the historical background of coastal crimes in India, and factors affecting coastal security.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Ms. Varsha Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Law & Order, PMF). During the event, DIGP Varsha Sharma engaged with NACP officials, discussing the training agenda and exploring potential collaborative efforts for future training and capacity-building in coastal and maritime security. She praised Assistant Commandant Mr. Ram Kishan and his team for their meticulous planning and dedication to reskilling and upskilling coastal and marine police officers.

In his address to the trainees, Assistant Commandant Mr. Ram Kishan emphasized the importance of applying the skills acquired during the training to enhance the security of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and safeguard its coastline.

This initiative underscores the Andaman Police’s commitment to bolstering coastal security and operational readiness. By facilitating this training, the National Academy for Coastal Policing aims to develop a well-trained and proficient police force capable of addressing the unique challenges associated with coastal security.
