The Andaman Sarvajanik Nirman Vibhag Mazdoor Sangh (ASNVMS), affiliated with the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), held its Annual General Body Meeting on 5th November 2025 at Sri Vijaya Puram. Around 200 members from different divisions of the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) in Sri Vijaya Puram and rural South Andaman participated in the meeting.
Presiding over the session, Union President B. Chandrachoodan highlighted the organisation’s efforts and struggles over the past decade in pursuing workers’ demands. He stated that continuous agitations by APWD workers had led to the Administration introducing a separate scheme granting daily-rated employees the benefit of 1/30th of pay plus Dearness Allowance across all departments.
Addressing the gathering, CITU State Committee Vice President D. Ayyappan spoke about the alleged negative policies of the central government concerning workers’ issues. He urged members to remain united under the ASNVMS banner and strengthen the CITU to continue their struggle for long-pending demands such as regularisation of services.
During the meeting, General Secretary S.P. Kalairajan presented the Union’s working report, while Treasurer Anand Rajan presented the audited accounts. A condolence resolution was also moved to pay homage to members and leaders who had passed away since the last General Body Meeting, followed by a one-minute silence.
A new committee was elected, with B. Chandrachoodan as President, S.P. Kalairajan as General Secretary, and Sharfudeen as Treasurer. The meeting also selected delegates to represent the Union at the forthcoming CITU State Conference scheduled for 20–21 December 2025 at Sri Vijaya Puram.
