Bhubaneswar, Odisha, is hosting the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD), a flagship event organized by the Government of India, from January 8 to 10, 2025. This biennial event aims to strengthen the bond with the Indian diaspora and recognise their invaluable contributions to the nation’s growth and development.

This year’s PBD is expected to attract around 4,000 delegates from across the globe. The theme reflects India’s focus on fostering cultural, economic, and diplomatic ties with its diaspora, making it a significant platform for collaboration and engagement.

The event will officially commence on January 9, with the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, inaugurating the occasion. The date holds historical significance as it marks the return of Mahatma Gandhi to India from South Africa in 1915. The valedictory session on January 10 will feature the Hon’ble President of India, Mrs. Droupadi Murmu, who will present the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award to distinguished members of the Indian diaspora.

Dignitaries of Indian origin from various countries will attend as chief guests, underscoring the unity and influence of the global Indian community.

Andaman and Nicobar Administration’s Tourism Department is also making its presence felt at the event. A dedicated promotional stall will showcase the islands’ rich cultural heritage, iconic national monuments, and tourism initiatives, aiming to capture international attention and boost the region’s visibility.

Held in Bhubaneswar, a city celebrated for its vibrant culture and historical significance, the 18th PBD provides an ideal setting to honour the achievements of non-resident Indians. It will also explore new avenues for collaboration in trade, technology, and cultural exchange, reinforcing the event’s role as a vital bridge between India and its global diaspora.
