ANIBOCWWB Approves ₹3.99 Lakh in Welfare Benefits for Registered Construction Workers

The 30th meeting of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (ANIBOCWWB) was held on 6th February 2025, at the Conference Hall of the Labour Commissioner’s Office, Supply Line, Sri Vijay Puram. The meeting was chaired by Mr. L. Kumar, IAS, Chairman of ANIBOCWWB and Secretary (Labour & Employment), with representatives from the A&N Administration, employers, and trade unions in attendance.

The meeting focused on extending social security assistance to registered construction workers in the region. Mr. Kumar stressed the importance of ensuring that welfare benefits reach all eligible workers and called for increased awareness among those engaged in construction activities across the Islands. He suggested distributing informative pamphlets to workers, detailing the procedures for claiming benefits provided by the Board.

After detailed deliberations, the Board unanimously approved the release of ₹3.99 lakh to settle 29 claims filed by registered construction workers under welfare schemes, including Pension, Education, Maternity, and Death Assistance. The approved funds will be disbursed through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system to ensure transparency and efficiency.

Established in 2009, the ANIBOCWWB aims to provide social security to registered construction workers. The Board currently implements nine welfare schemes, offering financial assistance for various needs such as education, health, maternity, and pension benefits.
