In a significant political development, Mr. Anil Tiwari is set to be formally introduced as the new State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Andaman and Nicobar Islands, during a grand function scheduled at 11:00 AM today at Hotel Mansha Regency, Phoenix Bay.

Mr. Tiwari, a prominent figure within the BJP’s local unit, previously served as the State Secretary and has long been considered an influential voice within the party’s island cadre. Known for his passionate oratory and deep grassroots connect, Mr. Tiwari enjoys a close working relationship with the Member of Parliament from the Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, further cementing his position as a trusted and experienced party leader.

The selection of Mr. Tiwari as State President follows the party’s formal internal election process. While the schedule for nominations, scrutiny, and withdrawals was set for 30th June 2025, only one nomination — that of Mr. Tiwari — was filed. As a result, he has been elected unopposed.

A resident of Sri Vijaya Puram, Mr. Tiwari is also a businessman and is known for his uncompromising stand on issues concerning the Islands. According to party insiders, his elevation was strongly endorsed by the BJP central leadership, with no opposition from within the local unit.

Mr. Tiwari’s appointment comes at a critical time for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with major strategic and developmental projects worth several billion rupees in the pipeline. The BJP-led NDA government at the Centre is expected to rely heavily on a capable and decisive local leadership to ensure that its initiatives are implemented effectively, reaching even the remotest parts of this geographically scattered Union Territory.

Furthermore, the absence of a state legislature in the Union Territory places additional importance on the role of the State President of national parties like the BJP. In this context, Mr. Tiwari’s leadership will be crucial in articulating the aspirations and concerns of the local population to the central government and ensuring that governance remains responsive and inclusive.

As Mr. Anil Tiwari prepares to formally assume his new role, expectations are high within political circles and among the public. His tenure is poised to shape not only the BJP’s prospects in the region but also the future direction of development and governance across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
