The Andaman Nicobar Islands Rural Livelihood Mission (ANIRLM), under the aegis of the Directorate of Rural Development, celebrated International Women’s Day with enthusiasm, recognising the achievements of women entrepreneurs and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across the islands.

On the occasion, 16 “Lakhpati Didis” from various Blocks, who have successfully crossed the annual income benchmark of ₹1 lakh through sustained livelihood activities under farm and non-farm initiatives, were felicitated by the State Mission Director, ANIRLM.

In addition, Hinengo Yong Nyio Self Help Group from Katchal, engaged in non-farm livelihood activities, was also honoured for its outstanding performance and contribution towards strengthening community-based enterprises after achieving the status of a Lakhpati Group.

Addressing the gathering, the State Mission Director congratulated the women achievers and highlighted the crucial role played by SHG members in promoting financial independence, entrepreneurship and community development in rural areas. He encouraged more women to take up income-generating activities and emerge as role models within their communities.

The event celebrated the spirit of women’s empowerment and recognised the transformative impact of Self-Help Groups in improving livelihoods and fostering inclusive growth across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
