The Andaman & Nicobar Pollution Control Committee (ANPCC), under the Department of Science & Technology, conducted an awareness programme at PM Shri Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Mayabunder, North Andaman, on November 24 as part of National Pollution Control Day 2025.

National Pollution Control Day is observed annually in memory of the victims of the 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy and aims to create awareness about environmental safety and pollution control measures.

During the programme, Mr. V. Satyanarayana, Librarian, DST, delivered a detailed PPT presentation focusing on air and water pollution along with other environmental challenges affecting the islands and the country. The interactive session saw enthusiastic participation from students.

A short film titled ‘Mitha Jahar’ was also screened to reinforce the message of environmental conservation and responsible waste management.

Towards the conclusion of the event, Artist Mr. P. Senthil Kumar and the Librarian distributed cotton bags bearing the messages “Swachhta Hi Seva” and “Swachh Rashtra Banana Hai” to students and teachers, encouraging them to avoid single-use plastic and adopt sustainable practices.

The programme aimed to sensitise young learners about the importance of environmental protection and inspire them to contribute to a cleaner and healthier future. (Story Based on PR)
