The Andaman & Nicobar Pollution Control Committee (ANPCC) under the Department of Science & Technology (DST) organized a series of awareness programmes at Govt. Senior Secondary School, Subashgram, Diglipur on 23rd November as part of the observance of National Pollution Control Day 2025. The day is observed annually in memory of the 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy to promote awareness on pollution control, industrial safety, and environmental protection.
As part of the event, the Department of S&T conducted a painting competition for secondary-level students. The contest saw enthusiastic participation, with guidance from Mr. P. Senthil Kumar, Artist, Department of Science & Technology.
The winners of the competition were:
- 1st Prize (₹2,500): Debika Halder, Class VIII, PM Shri GSSS Subashgram
- 2nd Prize (₹2,000): Diya Bairagi, Class VIII, PM Shri GSSS Subashgram
- 3rd Prize (₹1,000): Rohit Das, Class IX, GSSS Diglipur
An awareness PPT session was later conducted by Mr. V. Satyanarayana, Librarian, DST, followed by the screening of an environmental awareness film for the students.
The Deputy Education Officer of Diglipur Zone, Ms. Sulochana, and the Principal of the school, Ms. Kakoly Dey, presented certificates to the winners and motivated the students to continue participating in such educational initiatives.
