A delegation led by the Andaman Nicobar Rajya Karmachari Mahasangh (ANRKM), under the leadership of its President, Mr. Jaydeep Kr. Dey, met Mr. Shantanu Thakur, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, to discuss pressing issues concerning contractual employees of the Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works (ALHW).
During the meeting, held in the presence of Mr. M. Vinod, State Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Mr. Dey honoured the Minister with a traditional shawl. The delegation then submitted a memorandum detailing the challenges faced by contractual employees and proposed their absorption into permanent roles, citing precedents set by various Supreme Court verdicts on similar matters.
Mr. S. Biju Pillai, General Secretary of ANRKM, elaborated on the working conditions of these employees and the significance of the proposal. Mr. Thakur reviewed the memorandum and its supporting documents thoroughly, assuring the delegation of a prompt and positive resolution. He also invited the representatives to visit the Ministry for further discussions with officials.
The delegation included Mr. Jagdish, President, and Mr. Arogya Das, Secretary of the ALHW Karmachari Sangh. They expressed their gratitude to Mr. M. Vinod for facilitating the meeting and ensuring a patient hearing of their concerns by the Hon’ble Minister.
This interaction marks a significant step toward addressing the grievances of ALHW’s contractual employees and fostering a dialogue for long-term solutions.
