The Chairman of the Campaign Committee of the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), Mr. TSG Bhasker, has urged the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to reconsider its decision to conduct teachers’ training programmes during the upcoming Summer Vacation 2026.
In a representation addressed to the Chief Secretary, Mr. Bhasker referred to the Office Order issued by the Department of Education, Andaman and Nicobar Administration proposing to conduct training programmes for teachers during the summer vacation.
While appreciating the initiative of the Education Department to enhance the quality of teaching through training programmes, Mr. Bhasker expressed surprise over the timing of the programme being scheduled during the vacation period.
He pointed out that many teachers posted in the Islands have family connections, houses and land in their native places on the mainland and plan their visits well in advance every year. Due to the sharp rise in airfares during the summer season, teachers usually book their travel tickets months ahead to avoid financial burden.
Mr. Bhasker further stated that several senior teachers utilize this period to travel to the mainland for medical check-ups and treatment, while many younger teachers accompany their elderly parents for medical care.
Considering these circumstances, he suggested that the training programme, which is important for improving the quality of education, could instead be conducted either in April or after the summer vacation in July. Such a step, he said, would allow teachers to carry out their pre-planned travel schedules without inconvenience.
Mr. Bhasker has requested the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to reconsider the decision in the interest of the teaching community and schedule the training programme at a more convenient time.
