Mr. TSG Bhasker, Chairman of the Campaign Committee of the Andaman and Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), has recently raised serious concerns over persistent traffic congestion on the critical stretch of road connecting the Airport Entry/Exit to Garacharma District Hospital.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of the A&N Administration, Mr. Bhasker highlighted the increasing burden on the route, citing the rising movement of school vehicles, airport traffic, and growing commercial activity in the Bathubasti market area as major contributors to congestion, particularly during peak hours.

“The severe traffic jams on this stretch directly hamper the movement of ambulances and other essential services, impacting timely medical care for patients,” the letter noted.

Describing the situation as critical, Mr. Bhasker urged the Chief Secretary to personally inspect the area along with the Chief Engineer of the APWD and representatives from the Airport Authority. He emphasized that several sections of the road could be widened on both sides, which would immediately help ease the bottleneck.

He also raised concerns over a boundary wall recently constructed by the Airport Authority along the route, suggesting that the timing of this construction has exacerbated the traffic problem.

To address the congestion, Mr. Bhasker recommended a series of measures, including road widening at all feasible points, construction of flyovers in highly congested areas, and removal of abandoned or damaged vehicles obstructing traffic flow.

He concluded by appealing for prompt intervention from the administration to resolve the ongoing traffic crisis and ensure smooth movement along this vital corridor.
