The President of the Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), Mr. Rangalal Halder, has formally requested immediate intervention to address the damaged water pipelines disrupting the water supply to several villages of Mayabunder Tehsil. In a letter addressed to the Chief Engineer of the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD), Mr. Halder highlighted the ongoing crisis affecting the villages of Rampur, Karmatang, Mayabunder, Pokadera, and Webi.

Mr. Halder emphasized the severe consequences of the pipeline damage, which has severely impacted access to clean and sufficient water for daily needs such as drinking, cooking, and sanitation. He expressed particular concern over the health and hygiene risks posed to the residents due to the inadequate water supply.

In his letter, Mr. Halder also drew attention to the significant water wastage resulting from the damaged pipelines. He warned that if the issue is not addressed promptly, it could exacerbate water scarcity issues, further stressing the already limited resources in the region.

“Given the essential nature of the water supply for these communities, immediate action is needed to assess and repair the pipeline,” Mr. Halder stated, urging the authorities to prioritise the repairs.

The ANTCC President has called on the APWD to take swift and effective measures to restore water access to the affected residents, underscoring the urgency of the situation for public health and well-being.
