The President of the Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), Mr. Rangalal Halder, has called for urgent action to address the accommodation needs of pregnant women referred to Port Blair from inter-islands for medical consultations and treatments.
In a letter to the Chief Secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, Mr. Halder highlighted the significant challenges these women and their families face in securing suitable accommodation. “These women, often accompanied by their families, encounter considerable difficulties in finding suitable places to stay. This adds to their stress and affects their health and delivery process,” he stated.
Mr. Halder noted that the financial burden on these families is substantial, as many are forced to spend significant amounts on rented rooms during their extended stays in Port Blair. This situation exacerbates their stress and financial strain during an already challenging time.
In response to this pressing issue, Mr. Halder has urged the Administration to consider providing dedicated accommodation facilities, such as rooms or hostels, specifically for these inter-island pregnant women. He emphasized that ensuring these women have access to necessary care without the added stress of finding accommodation is crucial for their well-being.
