The President of the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), Mr. Rangalal Halder, has urged the Electricity Department of the A&N Islands to take immediate steps to address the persistent load shedding crisis affecting large parts of the territory, particularly the South Andaman region.

In a formal letter addressed to the Superintending Engineer of the Electricity Department, Mr. Halder expressed deep concern over the prolonged daily power outages—lasting up to 6 to 7 hours—that have severely disrupted the lives of residents. He emphasized that the ongoing electricity shortage has not only impacted households but has also crippled essential services, including healthcare, education, small businesses, and public safety infrastructure.

Calling for urgent and transparent intervention, the ANTCC President demanded that the Electricity Department take concrete corrective measures and issue a public explanation outlining the steps being taken to restore normal power supply.

Mr. Halder further warned that if meaningful action is not initiated within the next seven days, the Congress Party would be compelled to organize a mass protest in front of the Electricity Department’s Head Office at Mohanpura. He described the protest as a last resort, reflecting the growing frustration and helplessness of island residents enduring the prolonged crisis.
