The President of the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), Mr. Rangalal Halder, has urged the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands to take immediate steps to address critical infrastructure and safety issues affecting residents of the Nancowry Group of Islands.

In a letter addressed to the Lieutenant Governor, Mr. Halder highlighted the poor condition of key roads in the region, including the Kamorta–Pilopilow road, Kakana Road, and the main road connecting Champin to Tapang. He stated that prolonged neglect coupled with adverse weather conditions has led to extensive damage, with several stretches washed away, making the roads unsafe and unfit for vehicular movement.

Mr. Halder pointed out that the damaged roads have severely disrupted daily life, particularly affecting school-going children, the transportation of essential commodities, and access to medical and emergency services, thereby posing serious risks to public safety.

The ANTCC President also expressed concern over the dilapidated condition of tsunami shelters in the Nancowry Islands, noting that many structures are unsafe and lack basic facilities. He stressed the need for urgent repairs and regular maintenance to ensure preparedness during natural disasters.

Further, he drew attention to the acute shortage of Government residential quarters in Nancowry, stating that the lack of adequate accommodation causes hardship to government employees and affects the delivery of public services.

Mr. Halder has appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to direct the concerned departments to undertake immediate remedial measures in the larger public interest.
