The President of the Andaman and Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), Mr. Rangalal Halder, has raised an urgent appeal to the Chief Engineer of the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) regarding the severe water shortage affecting residents of Rangat Block, particularly in Mithila and Sitapur villages.
According to Mr. Halder, the current water supply system—providing water once every two days for just 30 minutes—has become grossly insufficient, causing immense hardship for the local population. The situation is especially challenging for senior citizens, children, and others who rely on a steady water source for daily needs.
The ANTCC President expressed grave concerns over both the quantity and quality of water being supplied. He pointed out that the water source is located dangerously close to a site where medical waste from the Rangat Community Health Centre (CHC) is allegedly dumped, raising the risk of contamination and posing serious health hazards to residents.
As an immediate relief measure, Mr. Halder has requested that the APWD implement an alternate-day water supply system for the affected villages. He has also sought a detailed explanation from the department regarding the root cause of this persistent crisis.
The ANTCC President urged the authorities to take prompt corrective action and prioritize the well-being of the residents by restoring an adequate and hygienic water supply at the earliest.
