The President of the Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee, Mr. Rangalal Halder, has strongly advocated for the expeditious filling of vacant positions within the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD). In a formal letter addressed to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the A&N Islands, Mr. Halder highlighted the critical need to address the staffing gaps hindering the department’s operational efficiency.
Mr. Halder underscored the pressing issue of nearly 15-20 vacant Executive Engineer positions and approximately 35-40 unfilled Assistant Engineer roles within the APWD. Emphasising the adverse impact of these vacancies, he stressed that the department’s ability to function optimally and meet the burgeoning infrastructure demands of the Islands was significantly impeded.
Moreover, Mr. Halder expressed concern over the prolonged delay in promotions for existing APWD employees. He stressed the importance of timely recognition of their contributions, citing its pivotal role in fostering a positive work environment, motivating employees, and ensuring continued dedication towards departmental objectives.
Highlighting the broader implications, Mr. Halder articulated that the prompt filling of these vacancies will not only address the existing workload, but will also offer employment opportunities for numerous unemployed youths across the A&N Islands.
Recognising the urgency of the situation, Mr. Halder fervently appealed for immediate intervention to address these issues. He urged swift action in appointing capable individuals to these key positions and facilitating the long-awaited promotions within the department. Mr. Halder reiterated that such proactive measures were essential for the overall progress and development of the Islands.
