The Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), led by President Mr. Rangalal Halder and Campaign Committee Chairman Mr. TSG Bhasker, observed a Black Day protest in front of Gandhi Bhavan, expressing disappointment over the denial of an appointment to meet with the visiting Union Minister of Power, Mr. Manohar Lal Khattar.
The protest highlighted the acute issues faced by residents, including frequent load shedding and prolonged power shortages, which have raised concerns over the administration’s ability to resolve these critical challenges. The demonstration was marked by black flags and slogans, reflecting the frustration of islanders who continue to experience disruptions in their daily lives due to the unreliable power supply.
The Congress leaders had planned to signal their grievances by displaying black flags as the Minister’s convoy passed by their office en route to the local power house. According to Congress leaders, in anticipation of the protest, the route was altered by the administration, reportedly to avoid confrontation with the Congress demonstrators.
Key figures from the party, including ANTCC Chief Spokesperson Mr. K Ganeshan, Mahila Congress Coordinator (South Andaman) Mrs. Zubaida Begum, City Congress President Mr. Mohd Zubair, NSUI State President Mr. M.A Sajid, INTUC (Federation) State President Mr. K.P Usman, and City Congress General Secretary Mr. Raj Reddy, took an active part in the demonstration. Through speeches and slogans, they demanded prompt government action to alleviate the power issues affecting the islands.
