Anti-Narcotics Police Busts Ganja Smuggling at VSI Airport, Arrests 26-Year-Old Labourer

In a significant drug seizure, the Anti-Narcotics Police arrested a 26-year-old labourer from West Bengal for carrying 870 grams of illicit ganja at VSI Airport, Sri Vijaya Puram, on Sunday (5th October 2025).

Acting on credible information received early morning, Inspector Vikash Singh, SHO of Anti-Narcotics Police Station, initiated a targeted operation. The information was promptly shared with DySP (Narcotics) Ms. Yogita Sharma, DANIPS, who directed a raid and joined the team at the airport.

A raiding team was constituted comprising Inspector Vikash Singh, ASI Surya Narayan, ASI Sanjay Yadow, HC Laxman Rao, PC T. Bhavani Shanker, PC Ratan Das, PC M. Raja Rao, PC Tamil Selvam, PC Nanak Singh, and PC Basarat Ali. The team proceeded to the airport exit gate, where surveillance of the suspected person was maintained.

At approximately 1110 hrs, the 26-year-old accused, a labourer residing in a rented house at Lillypur, Haddo, was intercepted with a blue-black-green luggage bag.

During the search, police recovered a transparent polythene bag containing dry leaves with flower shoots, which, upon testing with a Drug Detection Kit, was confirmed to be ganja weighing 870 grams. The contraband and the luggage were sealed at the spot under official procedures.

Following the seizure, the accused was arrested under Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act, 1985. The entire search and seizure operation was documented using the E-Sakshya App.

This operation underscores the vigilance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police in combating drug trafficking in the region.
