Anti-Narcotics Police Seize Over 3.3 Kg of Ganja, Arrest 22-Year-Old at Sri Vijaya Puram Airport

The Anti-Narcotics Police of Andaman and Nicobar Islands conducted a major operation at VSI Airport, Sri Vijaya Puram, resulting in the seizure of over 3.3 kilograms of illicit Ganja and the arrest of a 22-year-old male.

Acting on secret information, Inspector Sahil Samsuddin, SHO Cyber Crime Police Station, coordinated with DySP (Narcotics) Yogita Sharma, DANIPS, to form a raiding team. The team, including Sub Inspector Manoj Lal, ASI Surya Narayan, HC Laxman Rao, and PCs Ratan Das, M. Raja Rao, T. Bhavani Shanker, and Nandita Mistry, proceeded to VSI Airport early on 25th September 2025.

Upon arrival, the team briefed two people to act as independent witnesses. Around 10:30–10:40 AM, the team intercepted a male passenger near the old airport building. The individual, a 22-year-old room boy residing in Calicut Seven Hills Colony and originally from Ograbraj, was informed of his legal rights under the NDPS Act, 1985, and consented to a personal and luggage search.

During the search of his trolley bag, four packets containing dry leaves with a distinct odour were recovered. Preliminary testing confirmed the substance as Ganja, with the packets weighing 840 grams, 890 grams, 785 grams, and 860 grams respectively, totalling 3.375 kilograms.

The seized Ganja and the trolley bag were sealed on-site and documented under a seizure memo in the presence of witnesses. Following proper formalities, the accused was arrested under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act, 1985.
