Anti-Narcotics Police Seizes 4 Kg Illicit Ganja, Accused Arrested at VSI Airport

A major drug bust was carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Police Station on 15th of November 2024 (Friday), leading to the seizure of 4.040 kg of illicit Ganja at the Veer Savarkar International Airport (VSI). The accused, identified as Akash Biswas (22), a resident of Haddo, Lillypur, was arrested after his luggage was found to contain the contraband.

According to the FIR, credible information was received by Inspector Pritam Behari, SHO Anti-Narcotics Police Station, early in the morning that Biswas, who would be arriving from Kolkata via Akasa Airlines, was carrying concealed Ganja. Based on this tip-off, a raid was planned, with SDPO Bambooflat, Mr. Brij Mohan Meena, overseeing the operation.

A team comprising officers from the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, including SI Mohd Rahil Islam and ASI Sanjay Yadow, PC/1173 Ratan Das, PC/2871 Vishal Kumar, PC/2629 Nank Singh, PC/2836 M. Raja Rao and LPC/2772 conducted the raid at VSI Airport. The team, along with two independent witnesses, was stationed at the airport at 10:00 AM. Biswas was intercepted around 11:40 AM as he exited the airport, and was informed about the allegations.

The suspect was then frisked and his trolley bag searched. During the search, two pink floral print packets containing dry leaves with a distinct odour were found. Preliminary tests confirmed that the substance was Ganja. The total weight of the contraband was 4.040 kg.

The seized Ganja was sealed in the presence of witnesses and the accused was formally arrested at 1:10 PM on charges under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The recovered drugs were subsequently deposited at the Anti-Narcotics Police Station’s malkhaana. Investigations are ongoing.
