The police team intercepted Bimal Mondal, also known as Haru Das, son of Nepal Mondal, a 41-year-old resident of Dum Dum, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. Currently residing in Chanditala, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, Mondal had arrived in Port Blair from Kolkata on June 6, 2024, via an Air India flight. He was found in possession of 12.485 kilograms of ganja, which was clandestinely concealed in his trolley bag. The contraband was seized, and Mondal was arrested on the spot after completing all formalities.
During the ongoing investigation, it was revealed that Mondal is also wanted in connection with an NDPS case registered at PS Rangat in 2023. In that case, Subhir Gain, a resident near the vegetable market in Rangat, was apprehended with 4.5 kilograms of ganja, where the source was traced back to Haru Das. Further investigation revealed that Mondal is an ex-employee of CISF who was dismissed from service for violating service rules. Additionally, it was discovered that Mondal used a forged Aadhar card to purchase air tickets for transporting ganja to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The accused has been presented before the Honourable Court and granted a three-day police custody remand. The police are diligently working to dismantle the entire supply chain involved in this case while also investigating the forged Aadhar card and associated individuals.
