Anti-Narcotics Police Station Seizes Over 12 Kg Ganja in Two Operations at VSI Airport; Two Arrested

The Anti-Narcotics Police Station of the Andaman and Nicobar Police seized over 12 kilograms of suspected ganja and arrested two individuals in two separate operations conducted at Veer Savarkar International (VSI) Airport, Lamba Line, on March 8.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team led by Inspector Vikash Singh, Station House Officer of the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, carried out the first operation with the assistance of the Dog Squad. The team included ASI Sanjay Yadav, ASI S. Thimmi Raj, HC Laxman Rao, PC Anup, PC M. Raja Rao, LPC Nandita Mistry, along with a dog handler and sniffer dog, and PC Santosh Kumar Yadav.

During the operation, the team intercepted Ujjwal Khan (29), son of Ashok Khan, a private worker residing at Dollygunj in Sri Vijaya Puram, with permanent residence at L. Dey Road, Dulminadiha in Purulia district of West Bengal. Khan had arrived from Kolkata on March 8 by an Air India Express flight. On checking his luggage, the police recovered 9.230 kilograms of ganja concealed inside his bag. The contraband was seized and the accused was arrested on the spot after completing formalities under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

In another operation conducted on the same day, a second team comprising SI Manoj Lal, SI A. Santhosh, ASI Surya Narayan, PC B. Santhosh Kumar, HC Ratan Das, HC Mohd. Imran, and HC Tamil Selvam, along with the same Dog Squad team, intercepted Sk Bhantu alias Bhantu (28), son of Sk Majed, a private labourer from Samsabad in Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal. He was currently residing at Bhathubasti near Punjab National Bank.

The accused had also arrived from Kolkata on March 8 on an Indigo flight. During a search of his luggage, the police recovered 3.160 kilograms of ganja concealed inside his bag. The contraband was seized and the accused was arrested after completing all formalities under the NDPS Act.

Both operations were conducted under the supervision of Ms. Yogita Sharma, DANIPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Narcotics), and under the overall supervision of Jitendra Kumar Meena, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police (CID), Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The Andaman and Nicobar Police said the operations reflect its continued commitment to curbing drug trafficking and protecting the community from the menace of narcotics.
