Anti-Narcotics Police Station Seizes Over 2 Kg of Ganja, One Arrested

In a continued effort to crack down on drug-related activities, the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, with support from the Dog Squad, CID, carried out a successful operation on September 29, 2024. Acting on specific intelligence, the team intercepted and arrested a suspect at Sri Vijaya Puram Airport, recovering over 2 kilograms of Ganja.

The operation, led by Inspector Pritam Behari, Station House Officer (SHO) of the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, along with Assistant Sub-Inspector Sanjay Yadav and police constables Vishal Kumar, Nanak Singh, Ratan Das, M. Raja Rao, and LPC Nandita Mistry, targeted an individual suspected of smuggling narcotics into the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The team was assisted by PC Santosh Kumar Yadav, a dog handler, and ‘KASPER,’ a trained narcotics detection dog. The raid was carried out under the supervision of Mr. Vishesh Dhatterwal, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP), Narcotics.

The suspect, identified as a 26-year-old private worker from Kolkata, had arrived on an Indigo Airlines flight from Kolkata earlier that day. Upon inspection, authorities seized 2.055 kilograms of ganja, which was hidden in the suspect’s luggage. The individual was arrested on the spot after all legal procedures were followed.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, at the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, and further investigation is underway.

This operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Mr. Irshad Haider, Superintendent of Police (SP), CID, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The police continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drug-related activities to the authorities.
