In a swift and successful operation, a team of the Andaman and Nicobar Police recently apprehended 12 foreign poachers from Dhani Nallah in Rutland Island. Acting on credible information from local fishermen, the team, which included personnel from the Police Marine Force and the India Reserve Battalion, quickly mobilised to tackle the illegal activity.

The poachers, who were found in possession of a wooden engine dinghy, were apprehended and brought in for further investigation. The operation marks another successful intervention by the authorities in combating poaching activities, which have become a growing concern in the region.

Andaman and Nicobar Police have expressed their appreciation for the vigilance of local fishermen, whose timely information proved crucial in preventing illegal poaching in the waters around the islands. Authorities have time and again emphasised the importance of community cooperation in safeguarding the sensitive ecology and marine ecosystems of the archipelago.

Poaching, particularly the illegal harvesting of marine resources, poses a significant threat to the biodiversity of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The region’s delicate ecosystem is home to a wide variety of endangered species. The arrest of these poachers is seen as a significant step in protecting the islands’ natural heritage from exploitation.

In recent years, the Andaman and Nicobar Police have ramped up their efforts to combat poaching with the support of local communities and fishermen. The region continues to battle challenges posed by illegal foreign poachers exploiting its rich marine resources.
