Sri Vijaya Puram, January 15, 2026
Apeejay Shipping, one of India’s oldest and largest private shipping companies, has announced the launch of a dedicated shipping service to the Andaman Islands, a move expected to significantly strengthen maritime connectivity and logistics support for the region.
Founded in 1948, Apeejay Shipping has an extensive presence across domestic and international markets and is known for its focus on operational excellence, innovation, and customer-oriented logistics solutions. The company is part of the Apeejay Surendra Group, headed by Mr. Karan Paul, which has diversified interests spanning real estate, hospitality, insurance, education, and FMCG.
According to the announcement, the new service will operate with regular scheduled sailings to Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram), catering to a wide range of cargo requirements, including containerised, bulk, and project cargo. The initiative is aimed at ensuring reliable, efficient, and cost-effective transportation to support trade and economic activity in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
As part of the expansion, Apeejay Shipping has acquired a trade-specific 3,000-tonne geared cargo vessel equipped with two cranes of 60-tonne capacity each. The vessel, named APJ Karan 2, is scheduled to make its maiden voyage to the Andaman Islands in March 2026.
Mr. Ebrahim Jadwet of the Y.E. Jadwet Group has been appointed as the local associate of Apeejay Shipping in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, facilitating operations and coordination in the region.
The launch of this service is expected to improve supply chains, reduce logistical constraints, and provide a boost to commerce and development across the islands.
