The Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) celebrated its 68th Raising Day with great enthusiasm and a spirit of camaraderie, marking the occasion with a series of sports and cultural events that highlighted the department’s long-standing commitment to public service and infrastructure development.

The two-day celebration began on October 11 with a lively Sports Meet held at Netaji Stadium, inaugurated by Ms. Purva Garg, IAS, Secretary (PWD). She ceremoniously handed over the torch to the winner of the Mini Marathon, which had been organized earlier on October 5.
The day witnessed a range of competitive and fun-filled events, including the 100-meter sprint, sack race, and tug of war. APWD staff members and their families participated with great enthusiasm, reflecting the unity and vibrant spirit of the department. The winners were felicitated during a prize distribution ceremony by Shri T.K. Prijith Rekh, Chief Engineer, APWD.

The celebrations continued on October 12 with a grand Cultural Night dedicated to showcasing APWD’s achievements and contributions to the development of the islands. The event was graced by Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman) as the Chief Guest, and Ms. Purva Garg, IAS, Secretary (APWD) as the Guest of Honour.

In his address, Mr. Sharma commended APWD’s unwavering dedication to public welfare and encouraged young engineers to adopt innovative and sustainable practices in their work. Ms. Garg lauded the increasing participation of women in civil engineering and distributed prizes to winners of indoor sports competitions.

The evening concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Biju Varghese. The 68th Raising Day was also observed with zeal across all APWD divisions — including Diglipur, Mayabunder, Rangat, Car Nicobar, and Campbell Bay — where various programmes and activities were held to commemorate the department’s enduring legacy and service to the people of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
