ASMITA Kayaking & Canoeing Event Held at Sippighat, Encourages Women’s Participation in Water Sports

The ASMITA Kayaking & Canoeing Event was successfully organised at Sippighat on January 31, 2026, witnessing enthusiastic participation from women athletes and young sportspersons from different parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The event was conducted with the objective of promoting women’s participation in water sports and providing a competitive platform for emerging talent to showcase their skills in kayaking and canoeing disciplines. Participants displayed commendable enthusiasm and sporting spirit throughout the competition, reflecting the growing interest in adventure and water sports among women in the islands.

Adding inspiration to the event, Asian Games paddlers Karma Toppo and Srimati Bishnoi, along with international paddler Venkat Raman, interacted with the ASMITA participants. Their interaction served as a source of motivation for the young athletes, who gained valuable insights from the experiences and achievements of the accomplished paddlers.

The championship concluded on a positive and successful note, underlining the increasing popularity of kayaking and canoeing among women athletes. The event also reaffirmed the commitment of the organisers towards promoting water sports and advancing women’s empowerment through sports in the region.
