The Department of Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, in association with the Centre for Space Science and Technology Education and Research Centre (C-STERC), organized a three-day Astro Guide Training Programme at the Panchayat Samiti Bhawan in Little Andaman from March 5 to 7, 2026.

The programme was aimed at building local capacity and promoting astro-tourism as an emerging niche tourism segment in the Islands. During the training, participants were introduced to the fundamentals of astronomy and were provided practical exposure to night sky observation.

The trainees were also taught the use of telescopes, identification of constellations, and interpretation skills required to guide visitors during astro-tourism activities.

A total of 50 candidates from Little Andaman took part in the programme. The training equipped them with the necessary knowledge and skills to serve as Astro Guides, thereby creating potential livelihood opportunities for local youth while enhancing visitor experiences through guided stargazing activities.

The initiative forms part of the Department of Tourism’s efforts to diversify tourism offerings in the Islands and promote sustainable, experience-based tourism in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
