Austrian Musician Boris Seidl Promotes Andamans at World Stage

Boris Seidl an Austrian musician and traveller visited the emerald Andaman and Nicobar Islands last winter and instantly fell in love with the beautiful blue sea and the white sandy beaches. He returned back to the Islands in January 2020 and wrote eleven tracks with songs while chilling at a beach hammock with his friends, including Thomas his manager, who is also featured in the album.

Boris and Thomas recorded their album at Resonance – Digital Audio Recording Studio at Port Blair and went on to release it later in 2020. The album as mentioned has eleven beautiful tracks out of which two have their own official video now.

The songs with official videos Andaman Groove and Purple Waves have amassed more than 22,000 views together on YouTube alone, in a matter of weeks and is a hit among the Islanders.

Boris with his music is promoting Andaman and Nicobar Islands around the world. The COVID-19 pandemic has hit the Andaman and Nicobar Island tourism industry hard and even though the restrictions are being lifted now, it will take long to revive. Boris is promoting the Islands through his art it will surely attract more travellers and tourists to the beautiful Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Boris is currently located in Zurich, Switzerland and works as a Curling Trainer. Curling is a winter olympic sport played on a sheet of ice with highly polished granite stones. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions its not possible for Boris to play live concerts in Europe now and travel is also restricted, which is causing hinderance to his musical and creative development. While answering to a spew of questions by Nicobar Times, Boris mentioned that he understands that this time of pandemic is difficult for everyone and he showed his concerns for people who are related to Andaman Tourism and asked for everyone to stay positive.

Boris was interested in India from Childhood and as he explains it, he was fascinated by Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as it is so far away from the Indian mainland. He says he wanted to visit the Islands way back in 1994, during his first trip to India. Boris adds that he was always interested in the history of the Islands, as he is an Austrian Citizen and Nicobar Islands were a colony of Austria in 1778. He adds that the Teressa Island in the Nicobar Group is still named after an Austrian Queen Theresia. The historical connection between his country and the Nicobar Group of Islands even makes the Islands more interesting to him.

When queried on how special the Islands are for him, he replied “For me it is a very special place. Because I associate many beautiful memories with the islands. The people are incredibly nice. Also the police are always polite and smile at you. Special are of course the long white sandy beaches, the crystal clear sea, the mangrove trees, the variety of animals, the natives on the remote islands and the delicious Indian food etc. I could write much more. I really love this untouched paradise!”.

Boris spent his time in the Islands at Port Blair, Swaraj Dweep (Havelock), Shaheed Dweep (Neil Island) and Little Andaman. He wrote the songs for Andaman Groove in Havelock together with his manager and friend Thomas. Purple Waves one of his songs from Andaman Groove is about Little Andaman.

Boris mentions that the whole album Andaman Groove was recorded with Rajesh Debsharma in the Resonance – Digital Audio Recording Studio and credits him for being a great Sound Engineer and for his personality.

Boris has a strong connection to India. He wrote his Diploma Thesis on Hinduism at University of Kerala in 2012 -13 and he is also part of an Indian Band called Ashram.

Artists like Boris have always been instrumental in promoting unexplored places like Andamans throughout the history.
