The administration has issued a fresh advisory to fishermen, fish traders, and the general public of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, urging strict compliance with the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Marine Fishing Rules, 2004, particularly concerning prohibited fishing zones within the Union Territory.

As per the rules, fishing is strictly prohibited in the following areas within the territorial waters of the islands:

-Areas falling within the port limits as defined under the Indian Ports Act, 1908 (15 of 1908).

-Areas reserved for Aboriginal Tribes under the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (Protection of Aboriginal Tribes) Regulation, 1956 (Regulation No. 3 of 1956).

-Areas declared as protected or prohibited under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

Authorities clarified that these restrictions do not apply to vessels engaged in innocent passage while navigating toward legally permitted fishing zones.

The public has been cautioned that violations will invite strict legal action under the relevant provisions of the A&N Marine Fishing Rules, 2004, and its subsequent amendments. Authorities have emphasized the importance of preserving ecologically sensitive areas and respecting the rights of indigenous communities. (Story Based on PR)
