Authorities Seize 17.3 Kilograms of Venison in Baratang; One Arrest Made

In a coordinated operation on December 27th, 2023, a joint team comprising local Police, AAJVS, and Forest officials descended on Bamboo Basthi, Baratang, acting on information regarding the possession of a substantial quantity of venison by a resident.

Upon arrival at Bamboo Basthi, the team swiftly initiated a search operation, leading to the discovery of approximately 17.3 kilograms of venison concealed in an aluminium vessel at the residence of Mr. Halan Barla. The Forest Department promptly seized the recovered venison and the vessel from the accused’s possession at the scene.

Following the forest department’s seizure report, the Police Station in Baratang registered a case under FIR No. 43/2023 dated December 28, 2023, invoking sections 7/8 of the PAT Regulation 1956. Subsequently, Halan Barla, aged approximately 68 years and employed as a private worker, residing in Bamboo Basthi, Baratang, was apprehended by authorities of PS Baratang. Investigations into the case is currently ongoing.

The swift action taken by the joint team highlights the commitment of local law enforcement and conservation agencies to curb illegal practices threatening wildlife and environmental conservation in the region.
