Industries Department has announced a series of ‘Awareness-cum-Motivational Programmes’ focusing on the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and other government-sponsored schemes. These programs, which aim to provide valuable information and support to unemployed youths, are set to take place in various locations across the Nancowry Group of Islands, including Kamorta, Katchal, Teressa, and Chowra, starting from the third week of June 2024.
The initiative is being organised in collaboration with the Tribal Council, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), the Departments of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, State Bank of India (SBI), Andaman and Nicobar State Cooperative Bank (ANSCB), and various non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
The primary goal of these programs is to inform unemployed youths about self-employment opportunities available through various government schemes, particularly the PMEGP. Attendees will receive hands-on guidance for submitting applications for different schemes, including necessary documentation. Completed applications will be collected on the spot and uploaded online to the PMEGP Portal. Following verification and scrutiny, these applications will be forwarded to the respective banks for financial assistance under the PMEGP Scheme.
Unemployed youths from the Nancowry Group of Islands who are interested in setting up self-employment ventures in the manufacturing, service, or trading sectors are encouraged to attend. Participants are requested to bring one passport-sized photograph, their local certificate, tribal certificate, and educational qualification certificates.
This comprehensive outreach effort aims to empower rural entrepreneurs by providing them with the knowledge and resources needed to start their own businesses, thereby contributing to the economic development of the region.
