The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), A&N Administration, conducted an awareness-cum-training programme on Artificial Insemination (AI) techniques on October 29, 2025, at R.K. Pur Panchayat Bhavan, Hut Bay, Little Andaman. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from PRI members, representatives of local cooperative societies, and women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

The programme began with a detailed briefing on the importance of Artificial Insemination and its role in improving livestock productivity. Veterinary experts provided a live demonstration of the AI procedure, offering participants a step-by-step understanding of the technique.

At the conclusion of the session, essential medicines for livestock and poultry were distributed to the attendees, along with informative reading materials on modern animal husbandry practices.

Participants were also briefed on the department’s latest initiatives, including the use of Sex-Sorted Semen (SSS) AI and the introduction of high-yielding dairy cows aimed at boosting milk production and promoting genetic improvement in local cattle. The session encouraged farmers to adopt scientific breeding methods for enhanced economic returns and sustainable livestock farming.

The active participation of community leaders and SHG members, despite inclement weather, highlighted their commitment to improving animal husbandry practices. This initiative reflects the continuous efforts of the AH&VS Department to reach remote areas and empower farmers with scientific knowledge and resources.

The programme is part of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration’s broader vision to promote advanced livestock management and strengthen rural livelihoods through targeted outreach and capacity-building activities, a press release from the Department of AH&VS said.
