Awareness Program on Child Marriage Held in Mayabunder

The District Child Protection Unit of North & Middle Andaman organized an awareness program on child marriage at the Forest Labour (Welfare) Club, Mayabunder. The event, conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner N&MA, aimed to address crucial issues concerning child welfare in the community.

The program was inaugurated by the chief guest, Mr. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of N&MA, who delivered an insightful address emphasizing the importance of health and education for the youth. He highlighted the detrimental effects of child marriage and the need for collective efforts to combat this social issue.

The guest of honor, Dr. Chandra Prakash Meena, Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ), N&MA, Mayabunder, spoke on the ‘Nasha Mukth Bharat Abhiyan,’ a national campaign aimed at creating a drug-free India. He underscored the link between substance abuse and social issues, urging the community to work together towards a healthier future for children.

Special attendees at the event included Dr. Priyanka Iqbal, GDMO (Ayurveda) at Dr. RP Hospital, Mayabunder, and Ms. Anima Samaddar, Head Mistress of Govt. Primary School, Mayabunder, who both shared their insights on child welfare and education.

Earlier in the day, students from Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Mayabunder, participated in a spirited rally to the Forest Labour (Welfare) Club, demonstrating their commitment to raising awareness about child rights and the prevention of child marriage. About 150 students actively engaged in educational sessions and cultural activities designed to highlight the adverse impacts of child marriage. These activities showcased the students’ talents and dedication to social causes.

As a token of appreciation and encouragement, mementos were distributed to all performers, recognizing their valuable contributions towards promoting child welfare and advocating for children’s rights in the society.

This initiative underscores the District Child Protection Unit’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding children’s rights and ensuring their holistic development. Through collaborative efforts and community engagement, such programs aim to foster a safer and more nurturing environment for the youth of North & Middle Andaman.
