The Directorate of Social Welfare, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), A&N Islands, recently conducted an awareness program at the Directorate of Education Office. The session focused on two crucial legal frameworks—the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act) and the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.
Advocate Anoushka Singh, a resource person from DLSA, delivered an informative session on the POSH Act, emphasising workplace safety and the mechanisms in place to prevent harassment. She also provided an in-depth explanation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, outlining the legal rights available to victims and the remedies they can seek.
The event saw active participation from the staff of the Directorate of Education, who demonstrated strong interest in understanding the practical application of these laws.
This initiative, part of the campaign for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, aimed to raise awareness about women’s legal rights and the necessary measures to safeguard them from violence and harassment.
