To commemorate ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ initiative, a special program was recently organized by the ICDS Urban Project under the Directorate of Social Welfare at the Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sri Vijaya Puram. The event, held under the guidance of the school’s principal, Ms. Archana Singh, aimed to educate students from classes 6 to 9 on a range of crucial topics concerning health, safety, and empowerment.
Dr. Nandini from AYUSH Hospital led a session on anaemia, shedding light on its causes and prevention methods, with a focus on ensuring better health for young girls. Following this, Ms. Sarika Varma, Consultant Nutritionist from the Social Welfare Department, spoke about ‘Poshan Maah,’ an annual initiative dedicated to improving public health through enhanced nutrition and dietary practices.
Ms. Nandini, Sub-Inspector from the Aberdeen Police Station, addressed the students on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and shared details about three new criminal laws aimed at ensuring the safety of women and children. Additionally, Ms. Zarina Bibi, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) from Social Welfare, emphasized the importance of the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme in safeguarding and empowering young girls. Ms. Beena, Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) from GB Pant Hospital, concluded the event by stressing the significance of maintaining personal hygiene.
The awareness program successfully engaged students on various aspects of health, safety, and personal well-being, aligning with the core objectives of the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ initiative.
