As part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, an awareness programme on drug and substance abuse was organized at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT), Dollygunj. The event was conducted by the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA) under the District Administration, South Andaman, and the NAPDDR under the Directorate of Social Welfare, in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Unit of A&N Police, the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) of the Directorate of Health Services, the Police Entertainment Team, A&N Police, and Alcoholics Anonymous NGO.
A large number of students and faculty members of DBRAIT attended the programme. Mr. Rohit Paroi, Project Coordinator, IRCA (South Andaman), welcomed the gathering and urged participants to stay away from addiction.
Dr. M.K. Mahato, Medical Officer, IRCA (South Andaman), spoke in detail about the ill effects of alcohol and substance abuse and shared practical methods to overcome addiction. Mr. Rathindra Mallick, Psychologist Counselor, NTCP, Directorate of Health Services, discussed the harmful impact of tobacco use, while Ms. Asrita Falia, Project Coordinator, NAPDDR, Directorate of Social Welfare, provided insights into the current drug abuse scenario in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Participants also took a collective pledge to stay away from tobacco and drugs. The President of Alcoholics Anonymous shared a personal success story, and the Police Entertainment Team presented an engaging skit highlighting the dangers of addiction.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Anchamma, Project Assistant, NAPDDR.
