The State Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW), under the Department of Social Welfare, organized an awareness programme on health and hygiene for teenage girls at the Anganwadi Centre in South Point on Tuesday. The initiative was held in collaboration with the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) and witnessed the participation of 44 young girls.
The session was led by Dr. H.M. Siddaraju, Deputy Director of Family Welfare (DHS), and Ms. Asha Gain, Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), Family Welfare (DHS). Addressing the gathering, Dr. Siddaraju emphasized the importance of a balanced and nutritious diet to prevent anemia and other health issues. He also highlighted the risks associated with early marriage and teenage pregnancies, urging the participants to make informed choices about their health.
Ms. Asha Gain spoke on the significance of menstrual hygiene and personal cleanliness in preventing common infections and diseases among adolescent girls. She encouraged the participants to adopt safe hygiene practices as part of their daily routines.
The programme was coordinated by Ms. Hemlatha and Ms. P. Deepa Laxmi, Gender Specialist, who also created awareness about various schemes under the State Hub for Empowerment of Women.
An interactive session followed the presentations, allowing participants to engage directly with the ANM and clarify their doubts on health and hygiene-related matters.
The event was organized under the guidance of Mr. Ravinder Kumar, Director of Social Welfare, and Ms. Reeta Devi, Nodal Officer, SHEW.
