Awareness Programme on Ill Effects of Substance Abuse Held at Chouldari

The Directorate of Social Welfare, under the Nasha Mukt Bharat, Khushaal Bharat and the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), organised an awareness programme on the ill effects of alcohol and drug abuse at the Chouldari Gram Panchayat on December 24, 2025.

The programme was conducted in collaboration with the Police Department, Directorate of Health Services (NTCP), and the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), South Andaman. The initiative aimed to sensitise the community about the harmful consequences of substance abuse and to promote a drug-free and healthy society.

Officials from the participating departments highlighted the adverse health impacts of alcohol and drug use, the legal consequences associated with substance abuse, and the importance of timely counselling and rehabilitation. Emphasis was also laid on community involvement as a key factor in prevention and early intervention.

The programme witnessed active participation from local residents, who appreciated the initiative and described it as a meaningful step towards building a drug-free community.
