The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services conducted an awareness programme at Government Senior Secondary School (GSS) Calicut on 1st December 2025, to educate students and staff on safe practices around animals and the importance of compassion towards them.
The interactive session was led by Dr. V. Subramanian, Veterinary Officer from the Veterinary Hospital, Garacharma. During the programme, he spoke on preventive behaviour around animals, first-aid responses to animal bites, the importance of timely reporting to the nearest veterinary or health facility, and humane approaches to handling stray dogs. He also highlighted laws related to prevention of cruelty to animals and shared insights into career prospects in veterinary science and animal husbandry.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from Headmistress Ms. Jaya Singh, six teachers, sixty-three students and Veterinary Compounder Ms. T. Zareena, who extended technical support.
The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which students actively engaged with the speaker, seeking clarity on various real-life situations and animal welfare concerns.
