The One Stop Centre under the Directorate of Social Welfare, A&N Administration, in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women, recently conducted an awareness programme on women-related welfare schemes, legal protections and cyber laws at Govt. Tagore College.

Ms. Rukhsar Rahim, Para Legal Lawyer from the One Stop Centre, highlighted the importance of understanding legal safeguards available to women, especially in the digital era. She briefed students on the One Stop Centre Scheme and its services aimed at supporting women facing violence.

Resource persons also informed participants about the national cybercrime helpline number 1930 and stressed the need for timely reporting of online harassment or fraud.

Ms. Neela Baidya, Central Administrator of the One Stop Centre, elaborated on the comprehensive support provided under the scheme, including medical assistance, legal aid, police coordination, counselling and psychological support, along with temporary shelter for up to five days — all offered under a single roof for women in distress.

Additionally, representatives from the Women Helpline (WHL) shared key details about emergency support services such as Women Helpline 181 and Child Helpline 1098. They also sensitised the audience on important provisions of the POCSO Act to ensure protection of children from sexual offences.

The programme aimed to enhance awareness and empower young women with knowledge of their rights and the mechanisms available for their safety and well-being.
