In celebration of National Ayurveda Day 2024, Mahatma Gandhi Government College, in collaboration with Dr. R. P. Hospital, hosted an Ayurvedic Medicinal Plants Exhibition-cum-Competition on its campus recently. This event highlighted the rich tradition and diverse medicinal flora of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The exhibition featured an extensive collection of local medicinal plants, showcasing their traditional uses and benefits. A total of 70 students participated, representing different departments as well as individual entries, bringing a variety of medicinal plants available locally.
Dr. B. Praburam, Principal of M.G. Government College, and Dr. Priyanka Iqbal, an Ayurveda expert from Dr. R. P. Hospital, attended the event with a medical team. They engaged with the students, discussing the medicinal values of the plants on display, which included information on their potential health benefits and applications in Ayurvedic practices.
The event not only offered a platform for students to learn about the medicinal properties of local plants but also helped foster greater awareness of Ayurvedic traditions, underscoring the importance of preserving and understanding indigenous plant knowledge.
