B.Tech Civil Engineering Students of DBRAIT Visit Ongoing Smart City Project Site of APWD

As part of experiential learning and outcome-based education, the Department of Civil Engineering of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT), Sri Vijaya Puram, organised an educational site visit for B.Tech Civil Engineering students to the ongoing Smart City Project being executed by the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) along the East Coast, from Flag Point to Corbyn’s Cove.

The visit was coordinated by Mr. Altamash Mustafa, Training and Placement Coordinator and Associate Dean (IQAC), DBRAIT, with active support from Mr. Shivananda, Junior Engineer (Civil), APWD. The programme was conducted under the overall supervision of Mr. Sripada Tikadar, Executive Engineer, South Andaman Division. On-site technical guidance was provided by Mr. Indresh Kumar Yadav, Junior Engineer, Phase-I and Assistant Engineer (in-charge), Mr. Raja Ram Prasad, Junior Engineer, Phase-II and Assistant Engineer (in-charge), and Mr. Shamion, Assistant Engineer (in-charge), APWD.

During the visit, the students were exposed to various aspects of modern smart city construction practices, coastal infrastructure development, and sustainable engineering solutions being implemented in the Islands. APWD officials explained the stages of project execution, quality control protocols, safety measures, and highlighted the importance of smart city initiatives in enhancing urban infrastructure and long-term resilience.

The initiative received encouragement and institutional support from Prof. Sanmukh Kaur, Principal, DBRAIT, who underscored the significance of industry interaction and field-based learning in developing skilled and competent civil engineers for the future.
