The Bengal Association of Andaman and Nicobar Islands (BAANI) is all set to commemorate 75 years of Bengali settlement in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands with the 8th Bongo Mahasammelan. This grand event, celebrating the Platinum Jubilee, will take place today at Radhagovinda Mandir in Jodakinal, Sippighat, Sri Vijaya Puram from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
The event is expected to bring together Bengalis from across the Islands to honour their rich cultural heritage and contributions to the region. Scheduled discussions will focus on the challenges faced by the community and propose actionable solutions to strengthen unity and progress.
The Mahasammelan will be graced by the presence of Mr. Santanu Thakur, Hon’ble Minister of State for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Government of India. Known for his dedication to the welfare of the Matua community and his role in advancing connectivity and infrastructure, Mr. Thakur’s participation highlights the significance of this historic occasion.
Hon’ble MP Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray will also attend the event, emphasising its importance in addressing community concerns and fostering deeper connections among the people of the region.
To add cultural vibrancy, renowned singers and artists from Kolkata will perform during the day-long event. Attendees can look forward to an engaging mix of cultural performances, meaningful discussions, and tributes to the legacy of Bengali settlements in the Islands.
The Platinum Jubilee celebration promises to be a landmark occasion, celebrating the past while paving the way for a stronger and more unified future for the Bengali community in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
