Baby Girl Born Onboard M.V Coral Queen

Port Blair, Nov 24 2020

The passengers and crew of M.V Coral Queen while on its journey back from Little Andaman to Port Blair got a cute surprise when a healthy baby was born (born on 22nd of November 2020 at 0305 HRS IST) onboard the vessel with the help of Dr. Jacob Mosas the Ship’s Doctor and a passenger Smti. Hamida Banu a Senior Nursing Officer of G.B Pant Hospital, Port Blair.

The child and her mother are both heathy. The parents and relatives of the baby have expressed  gratitude towards the crew of M.V Coral Queen, Smti. Hamida Banu (Senior Nursing Officer, G.B Pant Hospital), the officers of Directorate of Shipping Services for their exemplary management of the situation. The parents have also thanked the officers of Andaman and Nicobar Administration and Directorate of Health Services for their assistance.

The vessel M.V Coral Queen was commanded by Capt. R.A Kumar and it is reported that the message about the lady going into labour pain was first conveyed to the Captain of the Vessel by the Duty Officer and the Captain immediately acted on the information on emergency basis.

It is not very often that we see delivery onboard ship’s. Ever since the initiation of Inter-Island helicopter services, most of the cases of pregnancy are referred to Port Blair from the far flung Islands by helicopter, if the need arises. However, now we know even pregnant women are safe to travel on ships. When a baby is born on an airplane, they usually receive complimentary travel for the rest of their lives by that airline. It is unclear whether there are any perks involved when a baby is born onboard a ship. The baby however will have a great story to share when she grows up.

The social media was buzzing with the news that the girl born onboard the ship, will be named Coral Princess, however the relatives of the newly born girl informed Nicobar Times, that the parents haven’t decided on a name for the baby yet.

Mr. Liju Thankachan, General Secretary of Seafarer Confederation of India (SCI) which is a Union of Merchant Navy Officers have thanked and appreciated the Captain, Crew of M.V Coral Queen, the officers of the Directorate of Shipping Services, Local Administration and Directorate of Health Services for their tireless effort ensuring the safe delivery of the baby onboard the ship as well as for all the prompt services received by the baby and her mother after reaching Port Blair.
