A 38-Year-Old resident of Baratang paid ₹4,19,860/- to criminals in multiple transactions. The criminals blackmailed the man on the pretext of releasing his obscene video on social media.
The man who reported the crime on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal mentioned that he received a video call on WhatsApp from an unknown number, when he picked the call someone from the other end captured his face image. The face image was morphed into obscene video and he was blackmailed.
The caller asked him to pay or his obscene video will be published on social media. The man also reported that he also got calls from someone claiming to be police officer in Delhi, and he was informed that his obscene video will be published soon.
He transferred some amount through Google Pay and also deposited some cash. The total amount he lost stands at ₹4,19,860/-.
